Yuma, Proud Protector is a Naya commander from Outlaws of Thunder Junction built around Desert lands as both a resource and a sacrifice engine. Whenever a Desert you control is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, you create a 4/2 green Cactus Plant creature token. Whenever you cast Yuma, she costs one less mana for each Desert in your graveyard — meaning a fully developed Desert-heavy mana base can reduce her cost dramatically before she ever hits the battlefield. The land you sacrifice to the engine funds the commander. The commander funds the army.
The deck is built around Desert synergy at every level: Desert-specific lands that generate value beyond basic mana production, sacrifice outlets that convert Deserts into Cactus tokens on demand, and enough landfall and graveyard payoffs to squeeze additional value from every Desert that enters and exits the battlefield. The token army scales with how aggressively you cycle through Deserts — and in a Naya shell with dedicated land tutors, the Cactus Plant count becomes unmanageable faster than opponents expect from a lands-based strategy.
