Xavier Sal, Infested Captain is a four-color (WUBR) Pirate commander from The Lost Caverns of Ixalan built around the most aggressive counter distribution engine the format has produced from a tribal shell. Whenever Xavier Sal and at least one other Pirate attack, each attacking Pirate connives — drawing a card, discarding a card, and placing a +1/+1 counter on itself if the discarded card was nonland. Every attack step filters the entire hand simultaneously while stacking counters across every attacking creature. The Pirates grow larger every combat step while the hand stays perfectly tuned for whatever the next turn demands.
The deck is built around attacking every turn with as many Pirates as possible: aggressive low-cost Pirates that establish early pressure and scale in power through the connive counters, discard synergies that convert every connive discard into an additional resource rather than a loss, and enough evasion to guarantee the attack trigger fires without profitable blocks available. The infestation compounds — Pirates that connived last turn attack bigger this turn, connive again, grow again, and close the game faster than any conventional tribal strategy has the right to.
