Umbris, Fear Manifest is a Dimir commander from Commander 2021 built around the most threatening combination of mill and voltron in the format. Whenever Umbris or another Nightmare or Illusion enters the battlefield under your control, each opponent exiles the top card of their library. And Umbris gets +1/+1 for each card exiled this way — meaning a board full of Nightmares and Illusions creates a commander that grows to absurd size while simultaneously eating through every library at the table. The fear isn't metaphorical. It's a 20/20 with evasion swinging for commander damage.
The deck is built around Nightmare and Illusion tribal density combined with the exile clock: creatures that trigger Umbris's exile effect repeatedly on entry, evasion and protection to ensure the increasingly enormous Umbris connects every combat step, and enough mill synergies to accelerate the library exile beyond what the tribal triggers alone provide. Opponents are racing against two clocks simultaneously — their library running out and Umbris's power becoming unsurvivable in combat. Neither clock stops ticking.
