Tannuk, Steadfast Second is a Gruul commander from Bloomburrow built around the most protective combat support the format's animal warriors have ever produced. Whenever Tannuk attacks, he assigns his power as combat damage to each creature blocking him divided as you choose — and other attacking creatures you control have ward equal to Tannuk's power. The bigger Tannuk gets, the more expensive it becomes for opponents to interact with every other attacker on your board simultaneously. Protecting the team doesn't cost a single mana — it costs whatever Tannuk's power says it does, and that number keeps climbing.
The deck is built around growing Tannuk's power as aggressively as possible while maximizing the size and value of the attacking team he protects: counter growth effects that inflate Tannuk's power and therefore the ward value on every other attacker, wide combat packages that benefit most from the protection umbrella, and enough trample and evasion to ensure Tannuk connects and deals maximum ward-setting damage every single combat step. Opponents who can't afford the ward cost watch the entire attacking army resolve uncontested. Opponents who pay find Tannuk already bigger than he was last turn.
