Talion, the Kindly Lord is a Dimir commander from Wilds of Eldraine built around one of the most elegantly punishing passive abilities in the format. When Talion enters the battlefield, you choose a number. Whenever an opponent casts a spell with mana value, power, or toughness equal to that chosen number, you draw a card and that opponent loses one life. The right number chosen at the right moment turns every spell opponents cast into card advantage and drain damage — passively, automatically, and completely free of any mana investment beyond keeping Talion alive.
The deck is built around maximizing the chosen number's reach: early game analysis to identify which number punishes the table most, flicker and bounce effects that let you reset Talion's number as the meta of the game shifts, and enough control tools to protect Talion while the passive drain accumulates turn after turn. Opponents casting their best spells feed the engine. Opponents avoiding their best spells cripple their own game plan. There is no number that leaves them comfortable.
