Felothar the Steadfast is a perfect Abzan commander for toughness-matters and defender strategies. Each creature you control assigns combat damage equal to its toughness rather than its power, and your creatures can attack as though they did not have defender. That means walls, high-toughness utility creatures, and normally defensive bodies all become real attackers the moment Felothar hits the battlefield. On top of that, Felothar can pay {3}, tap, and sacrifice another creature to draw cards equal to that creature’s toughness, then discard cards equal to its power, turning big-toughness creatures into a serious source of card flow.
This deck is built around Abzan defenders and toughness synergy: creatures with huge toughness, support pieces that reward toughness-based combat, and value creatures you are happy to cash in for cards once they have done their job. EDHREC currently groups Felothar most strongly with Defenders, Toughness Matters, and Midrange, which fits a strategy built on turning defensive creatures into attackers and leveraging their stat lines for both pressure and value.
