Shalai and Hallar is a Naya commander from March of the Machine that combines two of the most synergistic mechanics in the format into a single card. Shalai's half grants your other creatures hexproof — protecting the entire board from targeted removal the moment the pair lands. Hallar's half deals damage to each opponent equal to the number of +1/+1 counters placed on creatures you control each turn. Every counter placed anywhere on anything becomes a direct damage source hitting every opponent simultaneously.
The deck is built to place as many counters as possible every single turn: proliferate effects that multiply existing counters without new spells, pump spells and auras that load counters onto protected hexproof creatures, and enough mana acceleration to chain multiple counter-placing effects in a single turn cycle. The combination is brutal — opponents can't target your creatures to stop the counter accumulation, and every proliferate trigger drains the entire table at once. The protection and the pressure arrive together and reinforce each other perfectly.
