Lightning, Army of One is an aggressive Boros commander built around combat pressure, burst damage, and finishing the game before opponents can recover. She has first strike, trample, and lifelink, which already makes her a strong attacker, but her real payoff is Stagger: whenever Lightning deals combat damage to a player, until your next turn, if a source would deal damage to that player or a permanent they control, it deals double that damage instead. The rulings also clarify that the doubled damage is still dealt by the original source, which makes burn spells, combat damage, and follow-up attacks even more threatening.
This deck is built around Boros Voltron and combat burst synergy: Equipment and combat support to help Lightning connect, extra-combat effects and damage-based payoffs to exploit her Stagger trigger, and aggressive follow-up pressure that turns one clean hit into a lethal swing. EDHREC currently groups Lightning most strongly with Equipment, Voltron, Extra Combats, and Aggro, which fits a strategy built on connecting once and making the rest of the turn cycle brutal.
